Group Counseling

Group counseling, or group therapy, is a form of therapy where a small group of people, usually around 6 to 10 individuals, come together to work on their emotional or psychological challenges with the guidance of a therapist. It's a supportive and safe environment where everyone has the chance to talk about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Just like individual therapy, group therapy aims to help you understand yourself better, cope with difficulties, and make positive changes in your life.

In group therapy sessions, you'll have the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings, listen to others, and offer support to fellow group members. The therapist running the group creates a safe and respectful space where everyone can express themselves without judgment.

What makes group therapy unique is that you're not alone in your journey. You get to interact with others who may be dealing with similar issues or concerns. Health & Wellness Aligned group therapy sessions create a space where you can learn from each other's perspectives, gain new insights, and realize that you're not the only one facing certain challenges.

During this consultation, the therapist explains the purpose and benefits of group therapy, and discusses what the group focuses on, its format, and the guidelines for participation. This is also an opportunity for the individual to ask questions, express any concerns, and determine if group therapy is a suitable option for them.

This typically involves a one-on-one session with the therapist where the individual's background, history, and reasons for seeking therapy are explored in greater detail. The therapist gathers information to better understand the individual's needs, concerns, and goals. This assessment helps the therapist tailor the group's content and structure to best meet the needs of its members.

Collaborative work involves active participation, listening, and learning from each other's experiences. In the first few sessions, group members become acquainted with each other and build trust within the group. The therapist sets clear expectations, establishes guidelines for respectful communication, and fosters a safe and confidential environment.

Ongoing sessions provide a consistent and supportive space for members to share progress, setbacks, and insights, and to practice new skills learned in therapy. Each session follows a structured format that includes check-ins, discussions, and activities that relate to the group's goals. Over time, members continue to develop connections with one another, deepen their understanding of their own issues, and refine their coping skills.
